Girls, Girls, Girls...
Sarasota, FL (PRWEB) October 18, 2006 -- It was a joke that turned into a funny, poignant stage play… that turned into a successful charity fundraiser. And it's not done yet.
"The gg Monologues" opened May 5 at The Backlot in Sarasota -- it delighted audiences and became one of the most popular shows in the Backlot's history. Pam McCurdy was in the audience one Saturday night -- she was so enthralled that she asked "gg" to play at her club, McCurdy's Comedy Theatre, as a fundraiser event sponsored by the American Business Women's Association. The September 19th reprise of "The gg Monologues" at McCurdy's sold out and raised over $5,000 for women's scholarships.
"It's so gratifying to see my work performed in front of audiences who laugh and smile throughout the show," says Knapp. "But when that show can be used to raise funds that will help make a real difference in the community, that's beyond anything I ever hoped or dreamed could happen with 'gg' -- that's really quite special. Several people and groups have now expressed an interest in bringing the show in for their events."
As the result of those requests, "The gg Monologues" touring company, headed by director Amanda Schlachter, producer Christine Alexander, and playwright Amy Knapp, is now booking dates at private events and on stages across Florida. The touring company is a cast of seven talented local actresses: Christine Alexander, Zan Aufderheide, KT Curran, Mandy Elmore, Pam Karasy, Angel Parker and Amanda Schlachter.
In addition to working together on the growing cadre of "The gg Monologues" shows, Alexander, Schlacter and Knapp occasionally make Sunday night appearances at McCurdy's Comedy Theatre for open mike night. …. All in the name of creativity (and a little fun!)
